Position: Research Communication Specialist at the Medical Research Council

As a Research Communication Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in advocating for scientific research among internal audiences while engaging in effective scientific writing and content development. Your responsibilities will include orchestrating events, designing engagement initiatives, and maintaining a dynamic schedule of activities that promote a collaborative research atmosphere. Furthermore, you will assist various committees and groups, ensuring that diverse perspectives are integrated into the decision-making processes of the organization.

This role also offers the chance to engage in public outreach events and initiatives aimed at showcasing the impactful work conducted at the Council. Creativity, innovative thinking, and strong communication abilities will be essential attributes for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Internal Communications: Oversee the management of intranet content, organizational website, and social media platforms.
  • Digital Content Management: Develop and curate digital content to enhance visibility.
  • Research Awareness: Remain informed about ongoing research projects and actively promote the Council's scientific endeavors.
  • Project Support: Assist in the management of both internal and external projects.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate and sustain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Public Engagement: Facilitate public outreach initiatives and contribute to scientific communication efforts.

Collaborative Relationships:

The Research Communication Specialist will report directly to the Communications Manager and collaborate closely with researchers, academics, and various stakeholders. You will work alongside different communication teams and partners to achieve common goals.

Candidate Profile:

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a science-related discipline is essential, with a postgraduate qualification in a relevant area being advantageous.

Experience: Proven experience in managing websites and social media, delivering events, and overseeing projects is required. Familiarity with a scientific research environment is a plus.

Skills: Competence in social media management, proficiency in MS Office, web editing, and design is necessary. Familiarity with Adobe software is also desirable.

Personal Attributes: The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, manage multiple projects efficiently, and build strong working relationships. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are crucial.
