Position Overview
An exceptional opportunity has emerged for a temporary Band 6 Assistant Ward Manager to become part of a dedicated team within the Renal and General Medicine department.
We seek to engage a passionate and driven individual with a keen interest in Renal and General Medicine to assist the Ward Manager in ensuring the provision of exemplary care to all patients.
The ideal candidate will possess advanced clinical skills and a thorough understanding of the trust's core values and professional conduct.
Key Responsibilities
- Take charge of the ward/department regularly in the absence of the Ward/Department Manager.
- Support the Ward Manager in the judicious use of financial and other resources to maintain a balanced budget.
- Act as a specialist practitioner within the relevant field, engaging in direct patient care while demonstrating a high level of expertise and knowledge.
- Facilitate the efficient and timely admission and discharge processes for patients.
- Contribute to creating a therapeutic environment that caters to the needs of patients, families, and caregivers.
- Encourage a critical and analytical approach to care delivery and implement improvements to enhance systems.
- Participate in audits and enact changes based on audit findings.
- Serve as a mentor and preceptor to junior staff members.
- Lead the team in the absence of the Ward or Department Manager.
- Engage in the recruitment, selection, and performance evaluations of junior staff.

Candidate Profile
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- 1st Level Registered Nurse (relevant to the area of work)
- Relevant diploma/degree or expected completion within 12 months
- A minimum of three years post-registration experience, with at least two years in a Primary Nurse or equivalent role

- Management qualification
- Recognized teaching qualification
Knowledge and Skills

- Relevant clinical knowledge and experience in the specialty

- Student nurse assessor
- Evidence of ability to act as a preceptor/mentor to new staff
- Experience in developing teaching strategies/packages
