Role Responsibilities

In this senior role, you will engage in prominent analytical projects and research initiatives, contributing to impactful decision-making processes. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting policies related to immigration, public safety, and law enforcement.

This position demands accountability for various facets of statistical production, often leading teams of analysts and non-analysts to achieve innovative outcomes for stakeholders. You will also have opportunities to develop your technical skills through ongoing training.

Key Duties

As a senior statistician, you will be tasked with:

  • Designing new data solutions by integrating diverse data sources to better fulfill customer requirements.
  • Engaging proactively with stakeholders to present analytical findings and discuss data limitations.
  • Influencing discussions and decision-making processes to ensure effective data collection practices.
  • Advancing the use of appropriate technologies and analytical methods, serving as a primary contact for successful project delivery.
  • Employing suitable methodologies to conduct analyses, adapting approaches as necessary to manage various data sources.
  • Ensuring the delivery of high-quality statistical advice and analysis, both personally and through your team.
  • Enhancing the capabilities of team members by sharing knowledge about data sources and innovative practices.

Candidate Profile

We seek candidates with proven expertise in the following areas:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in managing teams while prioritizing tasks aligned with organizational goals.
  • Extensive analytical experience, with a strong background in applying research methodologies and a thorough understanding of data sources.
  • Experience in overseeing complex projects and delivering high-quality results that meet client expectations.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex analyses to non-specialists and engaging effectively with senior officials and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to produce impactful analyses under tight deadlines, employing strategic planning to identify potential risks.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, candidates should possess or be on track to obtain:

  • A first or second class honors degree in a quantitative discipline with at least 25% statistical content (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Sciences, Business Studies, Psychology, Geography, Data Science, or similar).
  • Alternatively, a higher degree (MSc or PhD) in a field with formal statistical training.

Additionally, candidates may apply if they have:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in a statistical or data science role, demonstrating continuous professional development in applying statistics or data science.
  • A level 4 apprenticeship in a statistical/data analysis field, with at least two years of relevant experience in government.
