London, Greater London, United Kingdom Royal Statistical Society Full time £37,000 - £42,500
Position Overview:
We envision a society where data drives understanding and decision-making.

Established in 1834, the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) stands as a premier organization championing the significance of statistics and data.

As a professional association for statisticians and data scientists globally, we advocate for the essential role of statistics and data in societal development, ensuring that policy creation and decision-making are grounded in evidence for the public benefit.

We are seeking a Policy Analyst to join our agile communications and policy team.
In this role, you will undertake significant research initiatives, which will involve both independent inquiry and collaboration with stakeholders, while also developing new research projects and pursuing external funding opportunities to support these endeavors.

The primary focus of this position will be to complete a project analyzing funding data to investigate potential biases in grant allocations.

Additionally, we have secured funding for a subsequent project, which will commence upon the completion of the first.

The initial policy projects will concentrate on themes of equality, diversity, and inclusion, an area where the society is actively conducting research, potentially guiding future initiatives.

Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of three years' experience in academic research, public policy, or political roles, with a proven track record of executing impactful research-driven projects.

Proficiency in quantitative research skills, including data analysis, visualization, and programming, is advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a strong ability to identify and develop new research projects through to successful completion. Evidence of successfully securing external project-based funding will be beneficial.

Benefits:
Our defined contribution pension scheme is available after three months of employment. Additional benefits include a training budget, season ticket loan, cycle-to-work scheme, and employee assistance program.

Work Environment:
The RSS office operates in a flexible manner, with attendance encouraged but not mandatory based on role requirements. Limited travel within the UK and internationally may be necessary.
Working hours are set at 35 hours per week, with applications for job shares, part-time, and flexible working arrangements considered.
Employees are entitled to 25 days of annual leave, in addition to bank holidays and a designated closure period between Christmas and New Year.

Key Responsibilities:
- Independently lead research initiatives.
- Organize and coordinate events to support research activities.
- Engage with governmental bodies, think tanks, and other organizations with relevant policy interests.
- Write, coordinate, or edit RSS policy documents, including reports and consultation responses.
- Develop project plans and proposals for policy research and attract external funding.
- Create data visualizations and graphics for reports and social media use.
- Demonstrate experience in social science research and public policy analysis.
- Build strong relationships internally and externally, with sensitivity towards members and volunteers.
- Convene stakeholders to facilitate policy or public affairs work.
- Exhibit the ability to produce clear, structured reports on policy matters.
- Successfully deliver time-sensitive research projects.

A demonstrable interest in areas such as statistics and data, science and innovation policy, promoting mathematical or scientific literacy, and evidence-based policymaking is essential.

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their CV and a cover letter to the RSS head of policy.
