Job Purpose

The Canal & River Trust is seeking an experienced Strategic Engagement Manager to join our team. As a key member of our regional team, you will be responsible for delivering funded and income-generating community engagement projects in the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for community engagement projects, working closely with the Community Development Manager to ensure alignment with regional goals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external funders, partners, and stakeholders to secure funding and support for community engagement initiatives.
  • Lead the delivery of funded programs, ensuring that they meet both funder and Trust objectives, and activate canal spaces to promote community engagement and brand awareness.
  • Conduct stakeholder mapping and analysis to identify opportunities for community engagement and develop targeted strategies to engage diverse communities, schools, young people, and local businesses.
  • Actively seek to grow funding and income generation possibilities, working closely with the Enterprise Managers and Business & Corporate Engagement Partner.
  • Lead regional events and initiatives, such as the Let's Paddle program, to promote community engagement and brand awareness.
  • Develop and implement a regional volunteering strategy, working closely with the Community Development Manager to identify and grow volunteering opportunities in the region.
  • Meet targets to increase volunteering within the London & South East region.
  • Display the Trust values and behaviors at all times, ensuring that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of Trust life.
  • Promote awareness of and compliance with the Trust's safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Take account of relevant safeguarding considerations in the planning and implementation of all activities, events, and strategies.

Requirements

  • Education to degree level or equivalent, ideally in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience of the charity sector, not-for-profit, heritage, or environment, customer-focused organization.
  • Experience and knowledge of delivering community programs with a proven track record of shaping strategies and programs.
  • Strategic partnership development and relationship management.
  • Ability to influence, persuade, and negotiate skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and people management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong presenter.
  • Experienced at networking and understanding the sector.
