Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Clinical Leader to join our team at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving, championing, and defending gold standard care for Older People.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical, strategic, and professional leadership for Older People nursing, ensuring safe, effective, caring, well-led, and responsive care for all patients.
  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy while working closely and collaboratively with senior medical colleagues.
  • Lead well-established, supportive, and collaborative multi-disciplinary teams dedicated to ensuring high-quality care for Older People.
Key Duties
  1. Contribute to the strategic direction and leadership for Older People care services Trust-wide, in conjunction with senior medical colleagues.
  2. Function as an expert practitioner, delivering high-quality care to patients and families on their caseload – 50% of their time.
  3. Drive the training, education, and development of nurses and allied health professionals working in the department, through:
  • Maintaining and growing links with educational and academic providers.
  • Growing the Trust-wide Older People Nursing Training Programme.
  • Establishing recognition, locally and beyond, for the Older People Nursing Training Programme.
Drive improvement in service quality and patient experience for Older People both in hospital and in care homes in Lambeth and Southwark.Take a direct role in service development, research, and evaluation.Line manage the Dementia and Delirium Team, the Frailty Practitioner Lead, and the Kings Older People's Admission and Liaison (KOPAL) Lead, demonstrating a supportive, person-centred, and motivational approach.Represent the service at local, national, and international meetings to promote the Older Persons care agenda and academic teams.Person Specification
  • Management qualification or significant senior management experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Masters degree in a relevant field.
  • Evidence of post-registration education at degree level in a relevant specialty.
  • Engaged in or committed to doctoral qualification.
  • Evidence of significant professional and managerial development, including a comprehensive and relevant CPD portfolio.
  • ENB 998/Teaching qualification or equivalent.
  • Counselling qualification.
Knowledge and Experience
  • In-depth experience of working in a specialist clinical capacity and as a senior clinical leader.
  • Experience of clinical practice development and applying continuous quality improvement methodology to develop services.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience in supporting and managing complex psychosocial situations.
  • Knowledge of current developments in nursing and political awareness of the NHS.
  • Experience of managing a clinical team, including human resources management.
  • Experience of independent research.
  • Educational experience and an ability to design and deliver educational programmes to meet the needs of health professionals.
  • Experience of developing policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of standard setting, ability to work with academics to develop research and audit driven by clinical priorities.

  • Detailed knowledge of current clinical professional issues relevant to the field.
  • Evidence of driving leading-edge clinical practice, supported by advanced theoretical and practical knowledge.
  • Ability to demonstrate a sound understanding of health policy.
  • Ability to develop strategic priorities and organize staff and resources to achieve high-quality patient care and delivery of quality targets.
  • Highly advanced planning, organizational, leadership, and communication skills, including the ability to prioritize competing tasks in a highly complex and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical and personal credibility to a range of internal and external stakeholders, forging productive long-term relationships.
  • Ability to handle and analyze highly complex information and deliver key messages to a range of staff, including experienced clinicians and managers.
