Position Overview

The role involves taking responsibility for providing expert dietetic services to patients within the Gastroenterology department. This includes ensuring the delivery of a safe, evidence-based, and economically viable hospital parenteral nutrition program in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team (MDT). Additionally, the position entails overseeing the organization of undergraduate training in partnership with educational institutions.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will offer specialized paediatric dietetic guidance to patients under the Gastroenterology team, managing their caseload independently while collaborating with a team of Band 8a, Band 7, and Band 6 Paediatric Dietitians, supported by a Dietetic support worker and administrative personnel.

The individual will also play a crucial role in supporting a comprehensive hospital parenteral nutrition service, working alongside the MDT and senior paediatric Gastroenterology Dietitians.

Conducting audits of the service and participating in research activities are essential components of this position. The post holder will lead dietetic research focused on gastroenterology patients.

The role includes responsibilities for evaluating and enhancing the service to ensure it remains evidence-based, safe, and cost-effective.

The post holder is expected to adhere to the standards of proficiency, conduct, performance, and ethics as set by the relevant professional body.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics
  • HCPC Registration as a Dietitian
  • Completion of Master's level modules in Paediatric Dietetics relevant to the specialty or equivalent experience and training
  • Extensive theoretical and practical experience in paediatric gastroenterology dietetics
  • Prior experience in clinical supervision
  • Experience in managing and providing hospital parenteral nutrition
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing policies and guidelines
  • Ability to apply critical thinking in evaluating published research
  • Leadership experience, including conducting performance reviews and setting work-related and personal objectives aligned with departmental and Trust goals

Desirable Qualifications

  • Membership in BSPGHAN and/or ESPGHAN
  • Experience presenting at national and international conferences
  • Experience leading quality improvement projects
