Birmingham, Birmingham, United Kingdom University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

The role involves providing expert paediatric respiratory physiotherapy, serving as a key resource for colleagues, management, and healthcare professionals both within and outside the organization.

The successful candidate will collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team and other health professionals to enhance the development, planning, and execution of respiratory intervention programs and training in this specialized area.

The position includes responsibilities as the inpatient paediatric respiratory lead, which encompasses planning, coordinating, delivering, and assessing the inpatient paediatric therapy service.

The post holder will conduct clinical audits, assess evidence-based practices, and strive to source high-quality, current research within this specialized field.

Additionally, the role involves supporting, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating staff and students within the specialty.

Participation in the departmental respiratory adult and paediatric overnight on-call system and a 7-day working rota within the respiratory therapy teams is required.

This position is primarily based at one of the Trust's sites, but as a multi-site organization, the post holder may be required to work at any of the Trust locations and may need to adjust their normal work location due to service development or reorganization.

Main Responsibilities

The role entails delivering specialized respiratory assessments, management, and treatment for paediatric patients, including those needing Cystic Fibrosis inpatient and outpatient support, non-invasive ventilation (NIV), and high dependency unit (HDU) care for diverse and complex conditions. The post holder will develop and implement individualized specialist treatment plans.

All clinical duties will be performed autonomously, with the maintenance of associated records.

The successful candidate will supervise, initiate, and engage in regular evidence-based audits and research projects to enhance clinical practice. Recommendations for practice changes will be made to the Clinical Team Leader, and the post holder will lead the implementation of specific changes or contribute to service protocols within their area of expertise.

Effective communication with patients, caregivers, and all relevant individuals, departments, and agencies is essential to maximize rehabilitation potential and ensure a clear understanding of the condition and therapeutic process.
