Position Overview

The role of Lead Physiotherapist for Paediatric Long Term Ventilation (LTV) is critical in addressing the skills gap in paediatric physiotherapy across the South and North Thames Networks. This position aims to enhance the management of Children and Young People (CYP) on LTV, particularly those presenting with acute conditions.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will operate autonomously and concentrate on the following key areas:

  • Assessing the current physiotherapy services within the South and North Thames Networks to identify needs and requirements;
  • Designing and implementing a comprehensive multidisciplinary training program, primarily targeting acute care settings while also addressing community education needs;
  • Establishing clear escalation protocols and tailored best practice pathways to minimize hospital admissions and transfers;
  • Collaborating with local teams to identify challenges and develop sustainable solutions, including support for business case development.
  • Leading the implementation of the Pan Thames Paediatric LTV programme's physiotherapy priorities, while also engaging with a broader Allied Health Professional (AHP) perspective when necessary.
  • Working in partnership with the programme team and regional provider and commissioning colleagues.

Job Duties

  • Engage with senior management, clinicians, and stakeholders to define the scope of the Lead Physiotherapist role, establishing key objectives and future development priorities.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of educational programs for the physiotherapy workforce within the networks.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators and physiotherapists to create, review, and deliver specialized physiotherapy training, evaluating courses to inform future educational needs.
  • Provide project management support to ensure clarity in responsibilities, priorities, and timelines for all participants.
  • Generate comprehensive documentation, including project reports and business cases, ensuring effective communication and risk management.

Financial Oversight

  • Advise on the procurement of physiotherapy-related products and services necessary for the educational program and related projects.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Develop engagement strategies to foster positive relationships with clinical and managerial staff, facilitating change and performance improvement.
  • Work closely with various organizations to understand their services and explore opportunities for enhancement.
  • Utilize negotiation and motivational skills to garner support from a diverse range of stakeholders.

Information Management

  • Design and implement effective information management systems for the education program, ensuring they meet the needs of various audiences.
  • Collaborate with data analysts to maintain necessary databases and develop policies that align with program standards.

Strategic Development

  • Stay informed about evolving priorities in physiotherapy care for CYP on LTV.
  • Identify workforce challenges to inform the development of new care models.
  • Forecast trends impacting service delivery and contribute to strategic planning.
  • Support the development of a physiotherapy workforce strategy, promoting best practices.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Master's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field.
  • Professional physiotherapy qualification and registration with the appropriate regulatory body.
  • Extensive experience in healthcare, particularly within the NHS or health science research.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development in service improvement and capacity analysis.

Desirable

  • Leadership or management training.

Experience Requirements

Essential

  • Experience managing care for children on LTV, including stabilization and escalation of care.
  • Proven track record in education and workforce development.
  • Experience in project management and operational performance improvement.
  • Ability to navigate complex clinical environments and manage sensitive information.

Desirable

  • Experience in Risk and Governance or Patient Safety.
