London, Greater London, United Kingdom Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Nurse or Allied Health Professional (ANP) Educator (secondment welcomed) with a background in providing training for paediatric long-term ventilation to join our Pan Thames Paediatric Long Term Ventilation (LTV) initiative.

The successful candidate will facilitate a training program aimed at health professionals who care for children and young people (CYP) requiring LTV, primarily within the North Thames Paediatric Network (NTPN), which encompasses North London and adjacent Trusts in the East of England.

By effectively delivering LTV training, we aim to enhance the care of children, allowing them to receive treatment closer to home and improving the overall experience for patients and their families.

The ideal candidate should be a registered health professional with a background in general paediatrics or a specialized field, possessing experience in caring for CYP with LTV. They should be confident in providing expert clinical guidance, training, and education within their area of expertise, and demonstrate a commitment to learning and applying their knowledge to support this specialized educational program across the NTPN.

Travel across North London and to neighboring Trusts in the East of England will be required, with occasional travel to the South Thames region.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver paediatric LTV training to enhance the skills of healthcare professionals across the NTPN Trusts managing CYP with LTV care through both e-learning and in-person training.
  • Collaborate closely with the current LTV Skills Implementation lead for North Thames, who operates on a part-time basis.
  • Possess experience in delivering face-to-face education and training.
  • Assist the senior Project Manager in overseeing the clinical governance processes of the program and in developing online educational resources and an educational strategy.
  • Exhibit strong collaboration, communication, and networking skills to build effective relationships with educators across the Network area.
  • Engage stakeholders from various health care professional disciplines to inform the development of the Network's educational framework.
  • Utilize stakeholder engagement to contribute to strategic discussions regarding the future of the paediatric workforce and succession planning, engaging with relevant organizations as necessary.

Working with Us

Our goal is to transform the delivery of paediatric LTV services, reducing the duration that infants, children, and young people on LTV spend in hospital while maximizing high-quality care and time spent at home.

The Pan Thames paediatric LTV program is commissioned by NHS England and is jointly managed by the South and North Thames Paediatric Operational Delivery Networks, aiming to enhance service delivery for paediatric LTV (Tracheostomy and Non-Invasive Ventilation).

The program covers the North Thames Paediatric Network (North London and bordering East of England Trusts) and the South Thames Paediatric Network (South London, Kent and Medway, Surrey Heartlands, Sussex).

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of dedicated professionals.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Programme team, Clinical Leads, and multidisciplinary clinical teams across the network to ensure effective design, delivery, and sustainable implementation of LTV Skills.
  • Identify training and development needs of multidisciplinary clinical teams in line with local and national policies to enhance staff confidence and competence in caring for CYP on LTV, thereby improving patient safety.
  • Develop resources to support education and training for clinicians across the network.
  • Provide motivation, mentoring, and coaching to a diverse range of health professionals to boost their confidence and competence.
  • Support the NTPN team in delivering regular online or in-person teaching and training sessions relevant to clinical work streams.
  • Assist in maintaining a Risk log and disseminating learning from incidents across the Pan Thames region.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and development of educational content for the Pan Thames Website for both professionals and parents/carers.
  • Regularly produce reports related to training and education across the network for the Programme Board and Commissioner work stream reports.
  • Facilitate the sharing of best practices within Pan Thames and with local and national organizations.
