About the Role

Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Principal Physicist to join our team in Radiation Safety and Diagnostic Radiology. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance on radiation safety and diagnostic radiology physics to ensure the highest standards of patient care and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a Radiation Protection Adviser and Medical Physics Expert in Diagnostic Radiology for the Trust and for outside contracts, as required under The Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017 and The Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposures) Regulations 2017 respectively.
  • Assist with the management and provision of radiation safety advice and services for all uses of ionising radiation in the Trust and diagnostic radiology physics support to the Trust and to other organisations who have contracts with Clinical Physics.
  • Act as the lead MPE for CT across all sites, including the Mile End Community Diagnostic Centre, which will have access to 2 CT scanners, a Cone Beam CT system, and a general X-ray room.
  • Develop and implement protocols for assessment of new CT technology and train physics staff in CT performance evaluation.
Requirements
  • Experience to act as a Medical Physics Expert in Diagnostic Radiology.
  • Experience in CT optimization and evaluation.
  • Experience of providing radiation safety advice in radiology.
  • Experience of managing and supervising staff.
  • Able to understand and operate a wider range of diagnostic imaging equipment.
  • Able to analyse complex data.
  • Able to interpret and apply relevant guidance and legislation.
  • Specialist knowledge (MPE level) in radiation and imaging physics as applied in medicine.
  • Specialist knowledge of radiation protection legislation in healthcare and biomedical research.
  • Knowledge of patient dosimetry techniques and software.
  • BSc (Hons) Physics or equivalent.
  • MSc in Radiation Physics or equivalent experience.
  • HCPC registered as Clinical Scientist.
  • Certificated MPE.
