Position Overview:

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a dedicated and skilled pharmacist to oversee a premier clinical pharmacy service within the Emergency Department (ED) and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Role Responsibilities:
The ED at UCLH encompasses both adult and pediatric services, along with a GP-led Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) and an Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit (AECU). The SDEC services are designed to enhance patient flow within emergency services and facilitate various admissions avoidance care pathways for both adult patients and children and young people (CYP).

The successful candidate will collaborate with the Medicine and Emergency Services pharmacy team to deliver comprehensive clinical pharmacy services across our Emergency Services and Medical Specialties Divisions.

Key Duties Include:

  • Leading the daily clinical pharmacy operations for the UCLH SDEC, participating in clinical rounds, and working closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
  • Utilizing independent prescribing capabilities to optimize medication regimens and develop discharge plans.
  • Serving as a vital resource for staff and patients regarding medication information across all care settings.
  • Conducting service evaluations and quality improvement initiatives to enhance existing systems and processes, particularly focusing on safety, efficiency, and productivity through our Electronic Health Records System, Epic.
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining clinical pathways that span care boundaries, including those involving complex and high-cost medications, in collaboration with colleagues across North Central London (NCL) and in primary care.
  • Supporting patients on admission avoidance or early discharge pathways that leverage virtual wards.
