Position Overview

The Pharmacy Department at Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking a proactive and innovative professional with substantial clinical expertise in acute and emergency care to enhance our Pharmacy team. The successful candidate will deliver advanced pharmaceutical services to patients within the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit and acute medicine, collaborating closely with the Emergency Department to ensure the effective, safe, and economical use of medications.

As an integral member of the pharmacy and emergency care teams, you will provide essential pharmaceutical governance, ensure medication safety, and offer comprehensive medicines information and financial oversight. Your role will also include education and training initiatives aimed at optimizing medication use for our patients.

The ideal candidate will contribute significantly to the establishment of a continuous 7-day pharmacy service, ensuring uninterrupted pharmaceutical support and improving patient outcomes. This initiative will involve working collaboratively with other team members to create a flexible working schedule that meets the needs of the service.

Key Responsibilities

The appointed pharmacist will undertake a comprehensive range of responsibilities as the Advanced Clinical Pharmacist for Emergency Services, delivering high-quality, patient-focused care.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing specialized clinical and professional pharmaceutical services to patients in the Emergency Department, SDEC Unit, and acute medicine.
  • Ensuring the optimal, safe, and cost-effective use of medications across the Trust.
  • Actively participating in the Trust's emergency care team, contributing to pharmaceutical governance and safety.
  • Building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance pharmaceutical care delivery.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Significant post-registration experience in a clinical hospital setting.
  • Demonstrated success in previous roles.
  • Experience in evaluating and reviewing medication protocols.
  • Knowledge of developing guidelines and patient care protocols.
  • Experience in providing training and mentorship within a healthcare environment.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working at the interfaces of care.
  • Familiarity with electronic prescribing systems.
  • Experience in staff management and performance evaluations.
