Clinical Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Scientist to join our Radiation Protection Group at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting the Trust and external clients in ionising and non-ionising radiation protection and diagnostic radiology physics.
Key Responsibilities- Support all aspects of the group's work, including ionising radiation protection, optical radiation protection, electromagnetic fields, and support to Radiology.
- Provide services to various departments, including Dermatology, Theatres, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT, Radiopharmacy, and Radiotherapy.
- Assess the safety requirements of PPE, carry out UV or X-ray equipment performance testing, and work with clinical staff on X-ray optimisation projects.
- Lead X-ray equipment performance testing, train staff groups in radiation safety, and audit safety and compliance with IRR, CAORWR, IRMER, and EPR regulations.
- Good Honours degree in a relevant subject or equivalent.
- HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist.
- Relevant MSc or equivalent.
- Proficient in the use of a PC, Keyboard.
- Experience of operating x-ray and laser equipment.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to use initiative to resolve problems.
- Logical thinker with ability to set objectives.
- Ability to use and develop software (including MS Office).
- Ability to work in an emotionally distressing clinical environment.
- Ability to relate to and communicate with a broad range of professional disciplines.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and as an individual.
- Ability to present highly complex data to large and varied audiences.
- PhD in a Physics related subject.
- Experience of working with quality management systems.
- Presentation of scientific papers at professional meetings.
- Publication of scientific papers or other reports.
This is a permanent full-time position, with flexible working arrangements available. The salary is £46,148 to £52,809 per annum, pro rata.
