Wythenshawe, Manchester, United Kingdom Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

This role presents a remarkable opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented individual with clinical expertise to become part of a well-established and vibrant nursing team specializing in pre-operative evaluations. The ideal candidate will be a registered nursing associate who, following suitable training, will conduct pre-admission screening assessments via telephone for patients across various specialties prior to their elective surgical procedures.

The position is part-time, with specific working hours to be determined during the interview process. The clinic operates from 8 AM to 6 PM, five days a week, with options for extended shifts. The service is provided at multiple hospital locations.

We provide comprehensive competency training for this position, along with ongoing supervision and support. Candidates must exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, their families, and members of the multidisciplinary team (MDT). A strong command of written English, mathematics, and proficiency in IT/technical systems is essential.

Key Responsibilities

The primary aim of the unit is to assess and optimize patients for a diverse range of elective surgical specialties. Therefore, the successful candidate will need a broad understanding of surgical nursing, although medical knowledge will also be beneficial. Ideally, candidates should have at least 12 months of experience as a band 4 nursing associate. Previous experience in pre-operative assessments is preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting screening assessments for multi-specialty elective surgical patients and performing telephone pre-operative evaluations.
  • Collaborating with the wider MDT to address issues and concerns.
  • Reviewing pre-operative investigation results to ensure they are within normal limits and escalating any abnormalities to the senior nurse.
