Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust for a Macmillan Acute Oncology (AO)/Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) Associate Nurse Specialist. The service is a 7-day delivery model, with extended hours of working (8am-6pm) Monday-Friday.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, prioritize, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions to meet patient needs.
  • Undertake comprehensive healthcare needs assessments of patients, changing treatment plans as necessary.
  • Provide psychological support for individuals and carers, identifying and involving the appropriate multi-disciplinary services to ensure individual needs are met.
  • Be responsible for assessing and recognizing emergencies in their specialty, interpreting information, and taking appropriate action.
  • Advise and support patients to manage their symptoms, providing highly specialist advice as appropriate.
  • Provide specialist care, knowledge, and expertise, empowering colleagues to ensure dissemination of knowledge and best practice.
  • Attend Consultant-led Out-Patient Clinics, manage and report on cases as appropriate.
  • Run nurse/midwife-led clinics as appropriate, providing highly specialist advice on the phone, liaising with general practitioners, district nurses, and hospital medical teams.
  • Take a lead role in the organization and management of multi-professional patient care.
