Job Summary

Assist the Section Manager in inspecting, maintaining, and renewing assets to standards and within agreed resource levels, budget, and unit cost measures. Supervise work delivery and undertake specific inspections as required. Assist in managing staff as directed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and check the quality of work delivered, ensuring assets comply with standards.
  • Carry out work safely, adhering to safe systems of work procedures, method statements, and other instructions.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Undertake specific inspections in accordance with standards as directed.
  • Prioritize work arising.
  • Prepare work and resource specifications, method statements, and Safe System of Work Plans.
  • Assist in developing work plans that enable safe, efficient, and compliant work delivery.
  • Assist in identifying and proposing asset renewals.
  • Assist in allocating resources.
  • Deliver work in accordance with relevant maintenance plans.
  • Provide information to update systems, databases, and records.
  • Undertake staff surveillance, work quality, compliance, and asset condition checks as directed.
  • Assist in managing, controlling, and disciplining staff as directed.
  • Assist in monitoring and reviewing staff competence and welfare.
  • Contribute to your own development and that of others.
Requirements
  • Experience in directing and supervising worksites, ensuring safe and efficient work delivery.
  • Knowledge of resource and work organization/planning processes and systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of rail testing, lubrication inspection, maintenance, renewal, and asset condition assessment techniques.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards, procedures, and instructions.
  • Awareness of cost and waste control techniques.
  • Able to demonstrate, promote, and embed safe working behaviors within the team.
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Able to coach, influence, and develop others.
  • Hold and retain competencies relevant to this post and required by business need.
  • Ideally hold (or be working towards) an NVQ level 2 or 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or have attained the appropriate level of knowledge gained through equivalent relevant experience.
  • Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
