Junior Clinical Research Associate

London, Greater London, United Kingdom Imperial College London Full time

Position Overview

We are looking for a motivated and dedicated junior clinical research associate (post-FY2 and above) to assist in a groundbreaking study focused on the symptoms associated with beta-blockers in patients with heart failure. This research aims to enhance patient decision-making and elevate the standard of care.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

  • You will serve as the primary clinical liaison for participants throughout the study, addressing inquiries via phone, email, and other communication channels regarding general health concerns, while ensuring appropriate triage and escalation as necessary.
  • Gain substantial experience in the management of chronic heart failure, with the research participants forming your own outpatient list, under the guidance of senior study personnel.
  • Participate in the Imperial staff bank, allowing you to take on various locum shifts within and beyond the Cardiology department to enhance your clinical exposure and earnings.
  • Observe clinical practices at a leading tertiary Cardiology/cardiothoracic service within a teaching institution.
  • Receive support in aligning your experiences with relevant curriculum competencies through workplace-based assessments and applications for specialized training programs.

Research Responsibilities:

  • Identify and screen potential study participants.
  • Conduct enrollment consultations, including vital sign assessments and ECGs.
  • Participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings focused on heart failure.
  • Assist participants in downloading and configuring the study application on their devices.
  • Manage the study database and retrieve data from the application server.
  • Contact participants to collect daily symptom data and address study-related queries.
  • Oversee general study administration, including coordination with the drug provider and research office.
  • Attend meetings and adhere to governance protocols.
  • Conduct periodic audits of the study and assist in manuscript preparation and presentations.

About the Research Initiative

The ENABLE-HF study, funded by a prestigious grant, aims to investigate the experiences of individuals who have previously discontinued beta-blocker therapy due to perceived side effects. This research will develop a personalized system to help patients understand whether their symptoms are attributable to the medication or other factors, ultimately guiding them in their treatment decisions.

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified medical doctor with valid registration and completion of UK foundation training (or equivalent).
  • Desirable knowledge of good clinical practice and relevant clinical or management experience.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and ambitious individuals are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in IT, including MS Office and database management.
  • Experience in clinical research, including data collection and manuscript writing, is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience managing patients with heart failure or general medical conditions is advantageous.

What We Offer

The opportunity to advance your career at a leading institution, with a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, including generous leave provisions.

This position is flexible and fixed-term, with the possibility of hybrid working arrangements based on the needs of the candidate and the study.
