London, Greater London, United Kingdom Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

This role is designed for a dedicated medical professional to enhance research and clinical operations within the department.

Key Responsibilities

The position will blend clinical and research expertise, presenting a remarkable opportunity to acquire research experience in type 1 diabetes, particularly focusing on immunological investigations. Our department has a strong track record of pioneering research in this area, especially in early-phase studies at the onset of type 1 diabetes. Additionally, the successful candidate will offer clinical assistance for our Type 1 diabetes service and Diabetes Oncology clinics.

As a leading center for type 1 diabetes with a substantial patient population, we facilitate the use of advanced diabetes technologies, including insulin delivery systems, continuous glucose monitoring, and hybrid closed-loop systems. Our multidisciplinary team comprises skilled physicians, specialized nurses, dietitians, psychologists, and psychiatrists, along with a dedicated pump coordinator. Furthermore, we are developing a Diabetes Oncology service in collaboration with a prominent cancer center, aiding patients undergoing cancer treatment complicated by hyperglycemia due to steroid use and other therapies.

The successful candidate will work closely under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, ensuring high standards of research and clinical practice.

About Our Organization

The Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology operates within the Clinical Directorate of Medical Specialties, which encompasses a variety of outpatient services, including Neurology, Pain Management, Ophthalmology, Neurophysiology, and Diabetic Eye Screening.

Our department plays a crucial role in both local and specialized medical services, treating approximately 20,000 patients annually, including numerous tertiary referrals for diabetes, lipid disorders, obesity, metabolic issues, and endocrine conditions. Our clinics are situated in modern, purpose-built facilities across multiple sites, and we also provide community-based services.

We have a vibrant and expanding research program supported by dedicated research nurses and practitioners, alongside state-of-the-art Clinical Research Facilities. As an Academic Health Science Centre, we collaborate closely with leading academic institutions.
