Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has arisen to become a vital member of our Head and Neck Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist team. This role involves a balanced commitment, with half of the time dedicated to patient care at one facility and the other half at a different site.

The successful candidate will deliver specialized support and guidance to individuals diagnosed with Head and Neck Cancer, primarily focusing on ENT patients. Collaborating closely with fellow Macmillan Clinical Nurse Specialists, the role aims to provide a thorough and specialized nursing service. The post holder will extend clinical expertise and compassionate support to patients and their families throughout the entire cancer journey, from initial diagnosis to treatment, survivorship, and palliative care.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will be an integral part of the Macmillan Head and Neck Cancer CNS team, delivering specialized nursing services to assist patients and their families throughout their cancer care continuum. Responsibilities will also include acquiring specialized knowledge and skills in Maxillofacial oncology to ensure coverage during absences.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Providing support and information from diagnosis through treatment and ongoing care.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and participating in MDT meetings.
  • Enhancing knowledge and skills to become a proficient practitioner in head and neck cancer and symptom management.
  • Assessing and prioritizing patient calls, referring to specialists as necessary.
  • Delivering holistic support and care addressing physical, psychological, social, and financial needs.
  • Recognizing when to seek additional support in challenging situations beyond personal competency.
  • Ensuring high-quality care that is sensitive to the unique needs of patients and their families, while promoting equality and diversity.
  • Facilitating ongoing training for healthcare professionals regarding all aspects of head and neck cancer.
