Job Overview

The Bank Patient Catering Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering a safe, efficient, and hygienic food service within the ward environment, adhering to established food safety and hygiene protocols.

This position involves the selection, preparation, reheating, and presentation of meals for patients, ensuring that nursing staff can effectively serve these meals.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be tasked with maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the ward kitchen and all related equipment.

The Patient Catering Assistant must be attentive to the individual dietary needs of patients and handle any personal information regarding their health with the highest level of confidentiality.

Additional responsibilities include providing portering and cleaning services to the catering department and assisting with basic food preparation in a chilled or frozen environment.

Moreover, the role may involve supporting other related tasks as directed by the Assistant Duty Manager or Duty Manager.

Main Duties and Responsibilities - Kitchen

  • Clean designated heavy catering equipment following specific instructions and using appropriate cleaning materials.
  • Dispose of waste from catering areas to designated collection points.
  • Operate industrial dishwashers in all catering areas.
  • Utilize mechanical floor scrubbing and steam cleaning equipment.
  • Transport provisions, equipment, and other catering-related items as necessary.
  • Maintain a clean working environment at all times, particularly regarding hygiene standards.
  • Ensure all food is prepared with care, especially concerning customers' special dietary needs, such as allergies to nuts, dairy, or wheat.
  • Monitor the input of patient menus on the Saffron tablets, ensuring accurate information capture.
  • Compile patient meal counts for picking and packing as required, generating necessary reports from the Saffron system.
  • Print pick pack sheets for each meal service, ensuring all information is correct and printed timely for efficient meal preparation.
  • Assist with the receipt of deliveries, verifying the quantity and quality of goods, ensuring compliance with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Report any discrepancies in deliveries both internally and to suppliers, arranging replacements or credit notes as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of stock and inventory movements, ensuring proper cost attribution to the specific department.
  • Ensure all stock is rotated and stored correctly to minimize waste and comply with relevant legislation.
  • Perform occasional duties outside the regular routine but within the scope of the position and departmental activities.
  • Assist with special functions as required, some of which may occur outside regular working hours, for which overtime will be compensated.
