Job Overview

The Bank Patient Catering Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering a high-quality, safe, and hygienic food service within the hospital wards, adhering to established food safety and hygiene standards.

This position involves the selection, preparation, reheating, and presentation of meals for patients, supporting nursing staff in serving food efficiently.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will ensure the thorough and hygienic cleaning of the ward kitchen and all related equipment.

The Patient Catering Assistant must be attentive to the unique dietary needs of each patient and maintain confidentiality regarding their health information.

Additional responsibilities include providing portering and cleaning services to the catering department and assisting with basic food preparation in a chilled or frozen environment.

Furthermore, the role may involve supporting other tasks related to Saffron and general inventory as directed by the Assistant Duty Manager or Duty Manager.

Main Duties and Responsibilities - Kitchen

  • Clean designated heavy catering equipment following provided instructions and using appropriate cleaning materials.
  • Dispose of waste from catering areas at designated collection points.
  • Operate industrial dishwashers in all catering settings.
  • Utilize mechanical floor scrubbing and steam cleaning equipment.
  • Transport supplies, equipment, and other catering-related items as necessary.
  • Maintain a clean working environment at all times, with a strong focus on hygiene.
  • Ensure all food is prepared with care, particularly concerning patients' specific dietary needs, such as allergies to nuts, dairy, or wheat.
  • Monitor the input of patient menus on Saffron tablets, ensuring accurate information capture.
  • Compile patient meal counts for picking and packing as required, generating relevant Saffron system reports.
  • Print pick pack sheets for each meal service, ensuring timely and accurate information capture.
  • Assist with the receipt of deliveries, verifying the quantity and quality of goods while adhering to due diligence in checking and recording delivery temperatures.
  • Report discrepancies in deliveries both internally and to suppliers, arranging replacements or credit notes as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of stock and inventory movements, ensuring costs are correctly attributed to the respective department.
  • Ensure proper stock rotation and storage to minimize waste and comply with relevant legislation.
  • Perform occasional duties outside the normal routine, as required, within the scope of the position and departmental activities.
  • Assist with special functions, which may occur outside regular working hours, for which overtime will be compensated.
