Job Overview

The Bank Patient Catering Assistant plays a crucial role in delivering a safe, efficient, and hygienic food service at the ward level, adhering to established food safety and hygiene protocols.

This position involves the selection, preparation, reheating, and presentation of meals for patients, supporting nursing staff in meal service delivery.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will ensure the thorough and hygienic cleaning of the ward kitchen and all related equipment.

The Patient Catering Assistant must be attentive to the individual dietary needs of patients and maintain confidentiality regarding their health information.

Additional responsibilities include providing portering and cleaning services to the catering department and assisting with basic food preparation in both chilled and frozen environments.

General assistance with other related tasks, including inventory management and support to the Assistant Duty Manager/Duty Manager, may also be required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities - Kitchen

  • Clean designated heavy catering equipment following specific instructions and using appropriate cleaning materials.
  • Dispose of waste from catering areas at designated collection points.
  • Operate industrial dishwashers across all catering areas.
  • Utilize mechanical floor scrubbing and steam cleaning equipment.
  • Transport supplies, equipment, and other catering-related items as needed.
  • Maintain a clean working environment, prioritizing hygiene.
  • Ensure food is prepared with care, particularly regarding patients' special dietary needs, such as allergies.
  • Monitor patient menu input on Saffron tablets, ensuring accurate information capture.
  • Compile patient meal counts for picking and packing, generating necessary Saffron system reports.
  • Print pick pack sheets for each meal service, ensuring timely and accurate information.
  • Assist with delivery receipts, verifying quantity and quality of goods, and ensuring compliance with Trust policies.
  • Report discrepancies in deliveries internally and to suppliers, arranging replacements or credits as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of stock and inventory movements to ensure correct cost attribution.
  • Ensure proper stock rotation and storage to minimize waste and comply with relevant legislation.
  • Occasionally undertake duties outside the regular routine, within the scope of the position.
  • Assist at special functions as required, with overtime compensation for hours worked beyond normal schedules.
