Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable individual with exceptional customer service abilities to become a part of our administrative team within the Cancer Directorate. This role is essential in ensuring a supportive and collaborative environment.

Role: Patient Access Clerk, Band 3

  • Full-time position, Monday to Friday, with occasional shifts extending until 1930, including bank holidays and weekends on a rotational basis.

Your responsibilities will include working alongside a skilled administration team to support the clinical and nursing staff in Oncology services. Candidates should possess administrative experience, a solid educational background, and proficiency in computer applications. Experience in public-facing roles and a professional telephone demeanor are essential. The ability to function effectively both in a team setting and independently, coupled with strong communication and organizational skills, is required.

You will collaborate closely with Consultants, Clinicians, radiographers, nursing personnel, and the operational management team to oversee outpatient waiting lists and document service activities. In partnership with the Patient Access Manager for Cancer Services, you will ensure adherence to organizational policies and national waiting time targets.

Key Responsibilities

Your main duties will include:

  • Assisting the Patient Access Manager in delivering an efficient patient access service for oncology-related treatments, including managing reception areas and appointment scheduling.
  • Overseeing patient bookings from referral through to outpatient attendance and discharge, collaborating with various healthcare professionals across multiple sites.
  • Analyzing Patient Targeting Lists (PTL) and cancer waiting time reports, addressing any discrepancies with the Patient Access Manager.
  • Providing high-quality administrative support to enhance patient experiences and assist healthcare staff in managing oncology and radiotherapy services.
  • Recommending improvements to policies and procedures to optimize patient access services.
