Position Overview
We are seeking a Lead Oncology Nurse Specialist to become a vital part of our dedicated team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. This role is integral to the delivery of exceptional care for patients undergoing Systematic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT).
The Lead Oncology Nurse Specialist will collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team, providing expert care and specialized knowledge to patients and their families navigating the complexities of cancer treatment.
The successful candidate will demonstrate clinical leadership, ensuring the highest standards of patient care while supporting and guiding nursing staff in the administration of SACT. The role requires a keen ability to assess the unique needs of patients, offering vital information and emotional support to both patients and their caregivers.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate nursing activities within the SACT unit.
- Administer SACT and intravenous medications as part of a nurse-led service.
- Deliver comprehensive information to patients and caregivers regarding cancer treatment processes, including diagnosis, prognosis, and symptom management.
- Possess in-depth knowledge of oncology medications, including potential side effects and complications.
- Provide skilled nursing care during treatment administration, managing acute reactions and complications, such as chemotherapy extravasation.
- Exhibit advanced skills in cannulation and venepuncture, adhering to appropriate training protocols.
