About the Role

Climax Studios, a leading creative force in independent games development, is seeking a highly skilled Technical Artist to join our team. As a Technical Artist, you will play a crucial role in creating innovative experiences and supporting the team in integrating and contributing to our projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Shader and Post-Process Expertise: Utilize in-depth knowledge of shaders and post-process techniques to enhance game visuals and performance.
  • Art Pipeline Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues within the art pipeline to ensure seamless collaboration between teams.
  • Optimization and Performance: Provide suggestions for optimizing art assets and game performance across various aspects of the game.
  • Material Shaders and Blueprints: Create and optimize material shaders and blueprints to achieve desired visual effects.
  • Collaboration and Critique: Work closely with the code and art teams, participate in critiques, and iterate on designs to ensure high-quality results.
  • Art Style and Discipline: Follow and recreate established art styles, demonstrating a strong understanding of asset discipline and pipeline processes.
Requirements
  • Shader Experience: Proven experience in creating and optimizing shaders for game development.
  • Industry Experience: At least one year of experience in a similar role, with a strong understanding of game development pipelines.
  • Creativity and Motivation: Demonstrate creativity, self-motivation, and a passion for game development.
  • VFX Skills: Possess strong and versatile VFX skills, with experience in Unreal Engine.
  • Maya Experience: Familiarity with Maya and its integration with Unreal Engine.
  • Quality Orientation: Demonstrate a strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality in all aspects of game development.
  • Blueprint Experience: Experience with Unreal Engine's Blueprint visual scripting system.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Artistic Education: Hold an artistic education to at least graduate level, with a strong foundation in art principles and techniques.
  • Folio and Portfolio: A strong folio showcasing examples of shader work and other relevant artistic projects.
Desirable Skills
  • Iterative Development: Experience with iterative development and rapid game play prototyping.
  • Unreal 5 Experience: Familiarity with Unreal Engine 5 and its features.
  • Console Development: Experience in console game development, with knowledge of console-specific requirements and limitations.
  • Lighting Skills: Strong lighting skills, with the ability to create realistic and engaging lighting effects.
  • Houdini Knowledge: Familiarity with Houdini and its integration with Unreal Engine.
