Lead Pediatric Community Nurse

Position Overview
This role involves a temporary engagement to provide essential nursing services within the community for children and young individuals aged 0-18 years. The successful candidate will be tasked with the evaluation, strategizing, and implementation of evidence-based nursing care tailored to a diverse caseload.
The children under our care present with a range of chronic and acute health issues necessitating specialized nursing interventions, including but not limited to enteral feeding, long-term ventilation, central venous access device (CVAD) management, and intricate symptom control, including palliative and end-of-life care.
Key Responsibilities
The role requires collaboration with children, their families, and a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal care delivery. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing professional nursing care in community settings, adapting to the unique needs of each patient.
- Fostering strong relationships with families and children to uphold high standards of care.
- Delivering holistic support to families, ensuring timely referrals to other services as needed.
- Exhibiting clinical expertise in assessing patient care requirements using established protocols.
- Offering educational resources and support to families within the community.
- Assuming leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Lead Nurse, overseeing daily operations and mentoring junior staff and trainees.
Our service operates primarily during weekdays, with shifts scheduled across early and late hours. The role encompasses a commitment to providing care during critical end-of-life situations, necessitating flexibility in working hours, including weekends and on-call duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Registered Nurse (Child) or equivalent qualification.
- Formal training in Teaching/Assessing.
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
Desirable:
- Degree-level nursing qualification.
- Specialized training in Children's Palliative and End-of-Life Care.
- Advanced Communication Skills training or equivalent.
- Leadership training experience.
