Position Overview

This role is designed for a fixed-term engagement to enhance the pharmacy services within the pediatric healthcare sector. You will join a highly collaborative pharmacy team that is part of a broader multidisciplinary team (MDT), where your expertise and contributions will be valued. We are looking for candidates with prior experience in pediatric pharmacy to deliver tailored pharmaceutical care to the child health team, which may encompass prescribing responsibilities, specialized input for neonatal and pediatric nutrition, participation in MDT meetings, and governance activities including the formulation of clinical guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Pediatric Pharmacy Specialist, your primary objective will be to ensure that the Child Health directorate receives the necessary pharmaceutical support to manage medications efficiently and effectively. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Clinical Expertise: Develop and maintain specialized knowledge in pediatric and neonatal pharmacy. Stay informed about current practices and protocols relevant to child health and their alignment with national guidelines. Provide expert consultation to medical staff regarding medication-related issues.
  • Service Development: Act as a deputy for the Lead Pharmacist in Child Health. Spearhead the creation and implementation of medication-related guidelines, policies, and procedures. Oversee the integration of new medications into the Trust through formulary submissions. Conduct audits of medication use within the pediatric sector.
  • Team Collaboration: Attend relevant Directorate meetings to ensure that pharmaceutical considerations are integrated into discussions. Lead initiatives aimed at enhancing pharmaceutical services within your area of expertise. Prepare quarterly reports summarizing departmental activities and achievements.
  • Training and Development: Identify training needs and provide educational support to Directorate staff to enhance their understanding of pharmaceutical practices.

Qualifications and Skills

Essential:

  • Master's Degree in Pharmacy (MPharm)
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Diploma/MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Independent prescribing qualification or willingness to pursue
  • Extensive experience at a Senior Hospital Pharmacist level, particularly in pediatric specialties

Desirable:

  • MSc in Clinical Pharmacy
  • Formal management training
  • Experience in leading and managing teams
