Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Senior Clinical Fellow in Pediatric Medicine to join our esteemed team at Northampton General Hospital. This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in comprehensive clinical practice within the realms of General Pediatrics and Neonatal Care.

Role Summary:

The successful candidate will embark on a structured 18-month program, designed to enhance clinical proficiency in a dynamic hospital environment. This position is classified as a non-training role, yet we actively support candidates pursuing the CESR pathway.

Clinical Responsibilities:

During the initial phase, the fellow will gain substantial experience in General Pediatrics and Level 2 Neonatal Care, working within a busy district general hospital. Subsequently, the role will transition to providing Tertiary (Level 3) neonatal care at a registrar level.

The fellow will rotate through various departments, including:

  • General Pediatric Wards
  • Pediatric Admissions Unit
  • Neonatal Unit
  • Post-Natal Wards
  • Out-Patients Department

In addition, there will be opportunities to manage critically ill neonates at a Tertiary level.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position, requiring an average commitment of 46 hours per week, with a flexible shift pattern.

Key Duties:

The fellow will be expected to:

  • Participate in the ST3+ (middle grade/Registrar) rota.
  • Engage in clinical duties across all departmental areas, including admissions, neonatal care, outpatient services, and emergency pediatric care.
  • Contribute to clinical audits and governance.
  • Facilitate the education of medical students, nursing staff, and junior doctors.

Regular teaching sessions will be held, including:

  • Lunchtime teaching
  • Weekly clinical meetings
  • X-ray meetings
  • Postgraduate examination preparation

The fellow will also play a vital role in the department's training initiatives and support the education of clinical students from various medical schools.
