Position Overview

Location: Pinbrook Road, Exeter

  • Full-time commitment of 40 hours per week.
  • Permanent role requiring work five days a week, including weekends.
  • Competitive pay rate of £11.54 per hour, with a schedule from Saturday to Wednesday, allowing Thursday and Friday as rest days.
  • Overtime compensation at X 1.25, with Bank holidays at X 2.0.
  • Additional potential to earn a performance-related bonus.

Key Responsibilities

As a shop operative, you will oversee the daily operations of our re-use shop, collaborating with the re-use hub manager to ensure the shop is well-stocked and that items are properly organized for sale.

Your tasks will include:

  • Organizing and merchandising stock, preparing, pricing, and presenting donations to maximize sales and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Managing the cash register, including cash and credit card transactions, as well as processing returns and refunds.
  • Ensuring that goods are sold at appropriate values and that any rejected items are disposed of correctly.
  • Coordinating collections and deliveries efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Maintaining the security of the shop, including stock and cash management.

You will be expected to embody the values of the shop and promote the charitable nature of the re-use initiative while delivering exceptional customer service to encourage repeat business and ensure the shop operates smoothly and profitably.

Candidate Requirements

  • A strong passion for environmental sustainability, particularly in relation to this re-use initiative, along with prior retail experience and a commitment to providing outstanding customer service.
  • Familiarity with recycling and upcycling practices is beneficial, or a willingness to quickly learn, alongside an understanding of stock management, merchandising, and financial operations in retail.
  • A flexible approach to work, as shift patterns and weekend availability are necessary.
  • Confidence to initially operate independently in the re-use shop until volunteers are onboarded.
  • Excellent teamwork abilities, as collaboration with site staff at the HWRCs will be essential.
