Position Overview

Whittington Hospital NHS Trust is initiating a transformative project aimed at enhancing early communication skills among children. We are assembling a dedicated team of Communication Support Practitioners to provide essential services to children and their families, fostering the development of effective communication abilities. This team will operate under the guidance of experienced speech and language therapists, ensuring that all practitioners receive comprehensive training and support.

The role of the Communication Support Practitioner is to deliver both universal and targeted clinical services as part of an integrated communication support initiative. This project is designed to assess the effectiveness of early identification and intervention strategies for children with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN) within educational settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Integrated Therapy Team in providing services tailored to children with communication challenges, adhering to established protocols.
  • Support both administrative and clinical functions to ensure the efficient operation of the team.
  • Engage in early identification and preventative measures for children with therapeutic needs through observation and information dissemination.
  • Conduct therapy activities or assessment screenings under the supervision of therapists, working with individuals or groups in various settings, including clinics and educational institutions.
  • Manage resources, maintain equipment, and ensure clinical notes are accurately recorded and kept in good order.
  • Organize and prioritize personal workload while complying with Trust policies, particularly regarding child safeguarding.
  • Report any incidents or accidents following Trust procedures.
  • Monitor and document children's progress towards therapeutic goals.
  • Deliver training sessions in clinics, schools, and community centers.
