Female Support Assistant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Female Support Assistant to join our team at Disability North. The successful candidate will provide support to a 7-year-old autistic young lady, enabling her to engage in social activities and allowing her mother to have respite.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one support to the young lady, promoting her independence and autonomy.
  • Assist with daily activities, such as getting dressed, having meals, and using the bathroom.
  • Encourage the young lady to participate in social activities, such as going to the park, playing with toys, and watching educational programs.
  • Support the young lady's communication needs, using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods if necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with the young lady's mother and other professionals to ensure a consistent and supportive environment.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with autism and complex needs.
  • Ability to provide physical support, including lifting and transferring.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable and punctual, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Driver's license and access to a vehicle.
  • Experience working with children with non-verbal communication needs.

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will be required to work in a home-based setting, with occasional outings to local parks and other community venues. The role will involve standing, walking, and lifting, and the successful candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
