The East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust is establishing a state-of-the-art Elective Orthopaedic Centre, anticipated to be one of the largest facilities of its kind in Europe.

As an Orthopaedic Surgical Assistant, you will play a vital role within the surgical team. Your responsibilities will encompass supporting the entire patient journey, serving as a crucial link among all healthcare professionals involved.

You will assist the lead Surgeon and the broader medical team to ensure the effective and seamless operation of the surgical program within Orthopaedic Surgery. This will include various aspects of surgical interventions, primarily focusing on elective procedures, with potential involvement in trauma cases.

The Dame Clare Marx Building, which will accommodate our elective orthopaedic centre, is set to open in 2024, emphasizing elective orthopaedic surgery and day case procedures. The facility will feature eight laminar flow theatres, three wards, recovery areas, and essential support services, including radiology and EBME.

Please be aware that the minimum working hours for this position are 19 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

You will be expected to execute these responsibilities with a high level of clinical expertise and knowledge to ensure optimal patient care.

Collaboration with Consultant Surgeons will be essential to maximize the effectiveness of this role.

Acting as a patient advocate, you will ensure that the multidisciplinary team delivers high-quality, coordinated care.

You will operate under the direct supervision of medical staff.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Evidence of professional development
  • Completion of a First Assistant training course
  • Registered Nurse with current registration on part 1 or 12 of the NMC Register or registered AHP
  • Relevant professional qualifications
  • Training in student supervision and assessment

  • Degree in Specialist Practice

Experience
