As an Orthopaedic Surgical Assistant, you will play a vital role within the surgical team. Your responsibilities will encompass supporting the entire patient journey and facilitating effective communication among all healthcare professionals involved.

You will collaborate closely with the Surgeon and the broader medical team to ensure the efficient operation of the surgical program in Orthopaedic Surgery. This will cover all facets of surgical intervention, including elective procedures, with potential involvement in trauma cases.

The new Dame Clare Marx Building, which will house our elective orthopaedic centre, is set to open soon, focusing on elective surgeries and day cases. The facility will feature eight laminar flow theatres, three wards, recovery areas, and support services, including radiology and engineering.

Please be aware that the minimum working hours for this position are 19 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

You will be expected to execute these responsibilities with a high level of clinical expertise and knowledge to ensure optimal patient care.

You will work in partnership with Consultant Surgeons to maximize the effectiveness of this role.

Act as a patient advocate to guarantee that the multidisciplinary team delivers high-quality, coordinated care.

Operate under the direct supervision of medical staff.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Evidence of professional development
  • Completion of a First Assistant training course
  • Registered Nurse with current registration on part 1 or 12 of the NMC Register or registered AHP
  • Relevant professional qualifications
  • Training in student supervision and assessment

Desirable

  • Degree in Specialist Practice

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of continuing professional development at degree level
  • Experience in collaborative, patient-centered work with statutory and voluntary organizations
  • Proven experience in an Orthopaedic theatre or ward environment

Knowledge
