Position: Advanced Teaching Assistant for Special Educational Needs


U-Educate is seeking to appoint a dedicated Advanced Teaching Assistant with a focus on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2. This is a full-time role during term time only.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support to students in both one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Assist in delivering tailored learning experiences as identified for each student.
  • Support may include personal care for students as needed.
  • Work with students with SEN and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Encourage and motivate students to engage with their learning tasks.
  • Ensure that all students remain focused and are progressing towards their learning objectives.
  • Communicate student progress and development to the classroom teacher.
  • Plan and prepare lessons for individuals and small groups, as well as for whole classes.
  • Deliver lessons and learning experiences as required.
  • Assess and report on the development and attainment of students.
  • Utilize specialized skills to meet the physical and emotional needs of students, particularly those with special educational needs.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Experience in an educational environment supporting students with SEND.
  • Familiarity with working with SEND children across the primary age range.
  • Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and the national curriculum.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with children and adults.
  • Ability to lead and manage a classroom effectively.
  • Support the Class Teacher in lesson planning and preparation.
  • Inspire and motivate students in their learning journey.
  • Experience with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and SEMH.
  • Ability to pass an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • Current Safeguarding Training (available through U-Educate if needed).

Contract Details:

  • Working days: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Tuesday, and Friday.
  • Total hours: 37 hours per week, term time only, plus teacher training days.
