Position: Senior Teaching Assistant for Special Educational Needs


U-Educate is seeking to hire a dedicated Higher-Level Teaching Assistant with a focus on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) for either Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2. This is a full-time, term-time role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide supervision to students on a one-on-one or small group basis.
  • Offer additional learning support tailored to individual needs.
  • Assist with personal care as required.
  • Support students with SEN and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Encourage and motivate students to engage with their learning tasks.
  • Ensure that all students remain focused and are progressing towards their lesson objectives.
  • Deliver constructive feedback to the classroom teacher regarding student progress and development.
  • Plan and prepare lessons for individuals, Enhanced Learning Provision (ELP) groups, and whole classes.
  • Conduct lessons and learning experiences for individuals and groups as needed.
  • Assess, mark, and report on student development, progress, and achievement.
  • Utilize specialized skills to address the physical and emotional needs of students, including those with special educational requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in an educational environment supporting students with SEND.
  • Experience working with SEND children across the primary age range.
  • Familiarity with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and the national curriculum, with a willingness to enhance this knowledge.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to relate effectively to children and adults.
  • Ability to lead a class effectively.
  • Support the Class Teacher in lesson planning and preparation.
  • Capability to inspire and motivate students.
  • Experience with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and SEMH.
  • Eligibility to pass an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • Current Safeguarding Training (available through U-Educate if certification is not up to date).

Contract Details:

  • Work schedule: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:10 AM to 4:00 PM; Tuesday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM; Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
  • Total of 37 hours per week, term-time only, plus teacher training days.
