Position: Senior Teaching Assistant for Special Educational Needs


U-Educate is seeking to appoint a dedicated Higher-Level Teaching Assistant with a focus on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2. This is a full-time, term-time role that plays a crucial part in supporting the educational journey of students with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support to students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups.
  • Assist in the delivery of tailored learning experiences as identified by the teaching staff.
  • Support students with personal care needs as required.
  • Engage with students facing Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.
  • Encourage and motivate students to achieve their learning objectives.
  • Monitor student progress and ensure they remain focused during lessons.
  • Offer constructive feedback to the classroom teacher regarding student development.
  • Plan and prepare lessons for individuals and groups, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
  • Deliver engaging lessons and activities to students as required.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress, reporting on their attainment and development.
  • Utilize specialized skills to meet the physical and emotional needs of students, particularly those with SEND.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in an educational environment supporting students with SEND.
  • Proven track record of working with children across the primary age range.
  • Familiarity with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and the national curriculum.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with children and adults.
  • Ability to lead and inspire a classroom environment.
  • Support the Class Teacher in lesson planning and preparation.
  • Experience with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and SEMH.
  • Capability to pass an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
  • Current Safeguarding Training (opportunities for training available).

Contract Details:

  • Full-time commitment: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:10 AM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
  • 37 hours per week, term-time only, including teacher training days.
