Position Overview

Nouvita Healthcare is seeking a seasoned Psychiatric Consultant to guide our clinical team on a long-term contractual basis. This position calls for a proactive and motivating leader who can cultivate a professional and transparent environment that empowers our healthcare professionals to deliver outstanding, empathetic care.

As the Senior Psychiatric Consultant, you will be a prominent and impactful presence within our facility. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary management team, ensuring that our services adhere to the highest standards of care and regulation. Your leadership will be instrumental in defining the strategic vision of our unit, consistently prioritizing safe, effective, and personalized care for each patient.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with clinical colleagues and management to develop a comprehensive treatment framework aimed at delivering high-quality responses to individuals facing various mental health challenges, grounded in evidence-based practices.
  2. Provide expert guidance regarding the psychiatric care of clients within your designated service area, taking overall responsibility for a defined patient caseload.
  3. Work in close partnership with the multidisciplinary team, fostering positive relationships with key stakeholders including the Medical Director and Clinical Services Manager.
  4. Oversee the performance of fellow Psychiatric Consultants, ensuring that systems are established to support their professional development and revalidation. Address any concerns regarding conduct or performance as necessary.
  5. Maintain effective leadership alongside other Psychiatric Consultants, offering clinical supervision and mentorship.
  6. Collaborate with the Responsible Officer to facilitate the appraisal and revalidation processes for other psychiatrists.
  7. Represent the organization at local, regional, and national levels, enhancing the visibility of our services and building relationships with commissioners and community teams.
  8. Participate in an on-call rota with other Psychiatric Consultants.
  9. Ensure adequate consultant coverage across the facility as required.
  10. Engage in quality improvement and service evaluation initiatives, and pursue relevant research opportunities that may contribute to service enhancement.
  11. Participate in educational and health promotion activities within the Mental Health Service, maintaining regular communication with General Practitioners.
  12. Lead the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program for the facility, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  13. Provide insights and recommendations on initiatives requiring a medical perspective, such as implementing guidelines from national inquiries and investigations.
Qualifications Required:

  1. Approved Clinician status
  2. Membership in the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) with good standing in Continuing Professional Development
  3. Current registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
Experience Required:

  1. A minimum of five years' experience in an inpatient psychiatric setting
  2. Experience in a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit
  3. Experience in Acute Services (Male or Female)
  4. Demonstrated ability to make independent clinical decisions and exhibit clinical leadership.
Knowledge and Skills Required:

  1. Strong understanding of evidence-based practices
  2. In-depth knowledge of Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA)
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  4. Current knowledge of practices in inpatient psychiatry
  5. Ability to prioritize clinical needs effectively
  6. Evidence of participation in clinical audits
Compensation: Competitive rates outside IR35

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm

About Nouvita Healthcare

Nouvita Healthcare operates a 40-bed facility that specializes in psychiatric services for adults. Our services include two female Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) and two acute wards.

Our PICU services are designed to provide care and support for women experiencing severe mental health crises, requiring rapid assessment and stabilization.

Our acute wards cater to older adults, typically aged 55 and above, who require short-term hospitalization to stabilize their mental health. The average duration of stay in our acute wards is less than forty days.
