Nouvita Limited is seeking a seasoned Psychiatric Consultant to guide our clinical team on a long-term contractual basis. This position calls for a proactive and motivating leader who can cultivate a professional and transparent environment, empowering our healthcare professionals to deliver outstanding and empathetic care.
Key Responsibilities
As the Senior Psychiatric Consultant, you will serve as a prominent and impactful presence within our facility. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary management team to ensure that our services adhere to the highest regulatory standards. Your leadership will be instrumental in defining the strategic vision of our unit, consistently prioritizing safe, effective, and personalized care for each patient.
Core Duties
- Collaborate with clinical colleagues and management to develop a comprehensive treatment framework that aims to provide a high-quality response to individuals facing various mental health challenges, grounded in evidence-based practices.
- Assume overall responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, offering expert guidance on their psychiatric care.
- Foster positive working relationships with the multidisciplinary team, including the Medical Director, Hospital Director, Clinical Services Manager, and external partners.
- Supervise the performance of Consultant Psychiatrists, ensuring that systems are in place to support their appraisal and revalidation processes. Address any concerns regarding psychiatrists' conduct or performance as necessary.
- Provide effective and professional leadership alongside other Consultant Psychiatrists, offering clinical supervision and mentorship.
- Collaborate with the Responsible Officer to facilitate the appraisal and revalidation of fellow Psychiatrists.
- Represent the organization at local, regional, and national levels, enhancing the visibility of our services and establishing connections with commissioners, community teams, and other key stakeholders.
- Participate in an on-call rota with other Consultant Psychiatric colleagues.
- Ensure adequate consultant coverage across the facility as required.
- Engage in quality improvement and service evaluation initiatives, and pursue relevant research opportunities that may contribute to service enhancement.
- Take part in educational and health promotion activities within the Mental Health Service, maintaining regular communication with General Practitioners.
- Lead the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program for the organization, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Provide insights and recommendations on relevant initiatives requiring a medical perspective, including the implementation of guidelines from national inquiries and external investigations.
Qualifications
Essential
- Approved Clinician status.
- Membership in the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) with good standing in Continuing Professional Development.
- Current registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
Experience
Essential
- Minimum of five years of experience in an inpatient setting.
- Experience working in Acute Services (Male or Female).
- Ability to make independent clinical decisions and demonstrate clinical leadership.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices.
- Proven participation in audit activities.
- In-depth understanding of the Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Up-to-date knowledge of current practices in inpatient psychiatry.
- Ability to organize and prioritize clinical needs effectively.
Desirable
- Experience in a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit.
