About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and inspiring leader to join our team as a Psychiatrist, responsible for leading our Psychiatric Intensive Care Units and acute wards. As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will be a key figure in shaping the strategic direction of our unit, prioritizing safe, effective, and individualized care for every patient.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive treatment service that delivers high-quality care to patients with mental health problems, based on evidence-based practice.
  • Provide expert advice on psychiatric care and take overall responsibility for a defined caseload of patients.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and foster positive working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Oversee the performance of Consultant Psychiatrists, ensuring systems are in place for appraisal and revalidation, and identify and escalate concerns about conduct or performance.
  • Maintain effective leadership and provide clinical supervision and mentorship to colleagues.
  • Represent the business externally, raising the profile of the organization and establishing relationships with commissioners, community teams, and other key partners.
  • Participate in quality enhancement and service evaluation projects, and contribute to research relevant to service improvement.
  • Lead the CPD programme and foster a culture of learning.
Requirements
  • Approved Clinician status
  • Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and in good CPD standing
  • Current registration with the GMC
Experience and Skills
  • At least five years' experience in an in-patient setting
  • Experience of working in a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit
  • Experience of working in Acute Services (Male or Female)
  • Ability to take independent clinical decisions and demonstrate clinical leadership

Baldock Manor is a 40-bed hospital in north Hertfordshire that provides specialist psychiatric services for adults. Our PICU services provide care and support for women at crisis level with a severe mental disorder, while our acute wards care for older adults who need a short-term hospital stay.
