Position Overview

Nouvita Healthcare is seeking a seasoned Psychiatric Consultant to guide our clinical team on a long-term contractual basis. As the Senior Psychiatric Consultant, you will be a prominent and impactful presence within our facility. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary management team, ensuring that our services adhere to the highest regulatory standards. Your leadership will play a crucial role in defining the strategic vision of our unit, consistently prioritizing safe, effective, and personalized care for each patient.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with clinical colleagues and management to develop a comprehensive treatment service that aims to provide a high-quality response to individuals experiencing various mental health challenges, grounded in evidence-based practices.
  2. Assume overall responsibility for the psychiatric care of clients within your designated service area, managing a defined caseload of patients.
  3. Work closely with the multidisciplinary team, fostering positive relationships with the Medical Director, Hospital Director, Clinical Services Manager, and external partners.
  4. Oversee the performance of Consultant Psychiatrists, ensuring that systems are in place to support their appraisal and revalidation. Identify, investigate, and escalate any concerns regarding psychiatrists' conduct or performance.
  5. Provide effective professional leadership alongside other Consultant Psychiatrists, offering clinical supervision and mentorship.
  6. Collaborate with the Responsible Officer to facilitate the appraisal and revalidation process for fellow Psychiatrists.
  7. Represent the organization at local, regional, and national levels, enhancing the visibility of our services and establishing connections with commissioners, community teams, and other key stakeholders.
  8. Participate in an on-call rota with other Consultant Psychiatric colleagues.
  9. Ensure adequate consultant coverage across the facility as necessary.
  10. Engage in quality improvement and service evaluation initiatives, and pursue relevant research opportunities that may contribute to service enhancement.
  11. Participate in educational and health promotion activities within the Mental Health Service, maintaining regular communication with General Practitioners.
  12. Lead the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program for the facility, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  13. Provide insights and recommendations on relevant initiatives requiring a medical perspective, such as the implementation of guidelines from national inquiries and external investigations.
Qualifications Required:

  1. Approved Clinician status
  2. Membership in the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) with good standing in Continuing Professional Development
  3. Current registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
Experience Required:

  1. A minimum of five years' experience in an inpatient setting
  2. Experience in a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit
  3. Experience in Acute Services (Male or Female)
  4. Demonstrated ability to make independent clinical decisions and exhibit clinical leadership.
Knowledge and Skills Required:

  1. Thorough understanding of evidence-based practices
  2. In-depth knowledge of the Mental Health Act (MHA) and Mental Capacity Act (MCA)
  3. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  4. Current knowledge of practices in inpatient psychiatry
  5. Ability to organize and prioritize clinical needs effectively
  6. Evidence of participation in audit activities
Compensation: Competitive rates outside IR35

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM

Nouvita Healthcare operates a 40-bed facility that specializes in psychiatric services for adults. Our services include two female Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (PICU) and two acute wards.

Our PICU services cater to women in crisis with severe mental disorders, requiring rapid assessment and stabilization.

Our acute wards focus on older adults, typically aged 55 and above, who need short-term hospitalization to stabilize their mental health. The average duration of stay in our acute wards is less than forty days.
