Position Overview

The University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled Senior Clinical Physicist to join our esteemed Radiology Physics team. This role is pivotal in delivering both clinical and non-clinical scientific and technical support in the realm of diagnostic radiology physics, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, staff, and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Management

  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Radiology Physics to oversee departmental operations and service planning.
  • Engage actively in workforce development, including recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Supervise technical staff, conducting performance evaluations and managing day-to-day operational issues.

Scientific Expertise in Diagnostic Radiology

  • Lead initiatives to develop and implement innovative techniques for the assessment, commissioning, and ongoing quality assurance of diagnostic imaging equipment.
  • Provide specialized guidance in key areas of the department’s work, contributing to strategic planning and the enhancement of operational procedures.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations and quality control tests on various x-ray systems to ensure compliance with safety standards and clinical efficacy.

Radiation Protection Advisory Role

  • Deliver expert scientific and technical advice in the capacity of Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) and Medical Physics Expert (MPE), ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Formulate and review policies related to radiation safety, collaborating with a diverse range of healthcare professionals.

Research and Development

  • Engage in research initiatives aimed at advancing Radiology Physics practices and optimizing radiological techniques.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with academic institutions and industry partners to enhance research outcomes.
  • Contribute to scholarly publications and present findings at professional conferences.

Training and Development

  • Facilitate training sessions for staff and students on radiation protection and relevant technical skills.
  • Support the training and assessment of trainee physicists and technologists.
