Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Radiation Protection Specialist to join our team at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. As a key member of our Radiology Physics department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective use of ionising radiation in our diagnostic radiology services.

Main Responsibilities
  • Scientific Support to Diagnostic Radiology
    • Initiate, plan, and introduce innovative techniques for the evaluation, commissioning, and continuing quality control of diagnostic x-ray equipment.
    • Provide leadership in specific areas of the group's work, including providing in-depth expertise, planning group strategy, and developing new ways of working.
    • Undertake critical examinations, commissioning tests, and quality control measurements on x-ray equipment to ensure safety and effectiveness.
  • Radiation Protection
    • Provide expert scientific and technical advice on radiation protection and medical physics expertise to ensure compliance with statutory obligations.
    • Design and implement radiation protection measures, including shielding requirements, patient dose optimisation, and quality assurance of equipment and procedures.
  • Research and Development
    • Conduct research and development in Radiology Physics, establishing and maintaining collaborative links with other hospitals, universities, and industry.
    • Undertake research and development work to improve the Radiology Physics service and optimise radiological techniques in the health service.
  • Teaching and Training
    • Deliver training to staff and students on radiation protection and medical physics topics.
    • Assist in the training, supervision, and assessment of trainee physicists and technologists.
