About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety, Health, and Environmental Manager to join our team at Koura. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety, health, and environmental performance across our UK operations.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead Safety, Security, Health, and Environmental Matters
    • Develop and implement safety, security, health, and environmental policies, standards, and procedures to ensure legislative compliance.
    • Provide leadership and technical advice to plants, projects, and corporate offices to sustain and improve safety, security, health, and environmental standards.
  • Manage Regulatory Compliance
    • Identify, define, and implement regulatory requirements for safety, security, health, and environmental matters.
    • Manage external interactions with regulatory bodies, such as the HSE, EA, BSI, and Koura corporate HSE functions.
  • Develop and Maintain Technical Knowledge
    • Develop and maintain technical knowledge and understanding of safety, security, health, and environmental operational activities.
    • Ensure that sites retain their license to operate.
  • Manage Regulatory Licenses and Permits
    • Manage all regulatory licenses and permits, including COMAH, EPR, F-gas, Hazardous Substance Consent, climate change levy, ESOS/ISO50001, and ISO 9001/14001/45001.
    • Ensure that sites can continue to operate legally.
  • Process Safety Management and Behavioural Safety Improvement
    • Maintain oversight and provide necessary direction for process safety management and behavioural safety improvement processes.
    • Leverage the strengths and resources within the SHEQ&S team.
  • Technical Training and Competence Management
    • Manage the deliverance of a technical training and competence management system.
    • Ensure that technical and operational staff are trained and deemed competent to carry out their role using latest thinking.
Requirements
  • Qualifications
    • Minimum: Graduate in chemical/scientific discipline.
    • Professional safety and health qualification, such as NEBOSH diploma, is essential.
    • Further education/qualifications in safety or environmental areas are desirable.
    • Formal leadership/management qualification or courses are desirable.
  • Knowledge/Experience Required
    • Established technical background with 10 years' experience in a production or operations environment and a minimum of 3 years in a regulatory position for an upper tier COMAH site (or equivalent).
    • Some experience of directly managing other SHEQ&S professionals is essential.
    • Management and leadership experience is a key requirement and differentiator for this role.
    • Proven experience with management systems, including design, implementation, and auditing (ISO 9001/14001/18001).
    • Technical competence in a broad spread of specific topics, such as process safety, environmental regulation, occupational safety.
    • Influencing and rational persuasion skills.
    • High safety standards result-orientated concern for impact and analytical skills.
