Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and Develop SHEQ&S Policies and Procedures

Develop, implement, and maintain effective Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHEQ&S) policies, standards, processes, and procedures to achieve and maintain world-class SHEQ&S performance.

Manage Regulatory Compliance

Ensure legislative compliance within the business by leading the SHEQ&S teams and influencing management teams to sustain and improve SHEQ&S standards.

Provide Technical Expertise

Develop and maintain technical knowledge and understanding of SHEQ&S operational activities to ensure that sites retain their license to operate.

Represent Koura in External Interactions

Manage external interactions with regulatory bodies, such as the HSE, EA, BSI, and Koura corporate HSE functions, to represent the Koura UK position for SHEQ&S reporting, meetings, reviews, audits, inspections, and visits.

Manage Regulatory Licenses and Permits

Manage all regulatory licenses and permits, including COMAH, EPR, F-gas, Hazardous Substance Consent, climate change levy, ESOS/ISO50001, and ISO 9001/14001/45001, to ensure that sites can continue to operate legally.

Oversee Process Safety Management and Behavioural Safety Improvement

Maintain oversight, provide necessary direction, and support the process safety management (PSM) and behavioural safety improvement processes across the business by leveraging the strengths and resources within the SHEQ&S team.

Develop and Implement a Technical Training and Competence Management System

Manage, via team, the deliverance of a technical training and competence management system that ensures technical and operational staff are trained and deemed competent to carry out their role using the latest thinking.

Requirements
  • Education and Qualifications

Minimum: Graduate in a chemical or scientific discipline. Professional safety and health qualification, such as a NEBOSH diploma, is essential. Further education/qualifications in safety or environmental areas are desirable. Formal leadership/management qualification or courses are desirable.

Experience and Knowledge

An established technical background with 10 years' experience in a production or operations environment and a minimum of 3 years in a regulatory position for an upper-tier COMAH site (or equivalent). Some experience of directly managing other SHEQ&S professionals is essential. Management and leadership experience is a key requirement and differentiator for this role.

Technical Competence

Technical competence in a broad spread of specific topics, such as process safety, environmental regulation, occupational safety. Influencing and rational persuasion skills. High safety standards result-oriented concern for impact and analytical skills.
