Position Overview

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a dedicated and proactive Clinical Nurse Specialist in Paediatrics to become part of the Peripheral Nerve Injury Unit. This role is designed as a developmental Band 6 position, with the potential for advancement to Band 7 upon successful completion of required competencies.

The position provides extensive opportunities for professional growth and development, both within the organization and through external avenues.

We are looking for a highly driven, committed, and passionate individual to join our team, which caters to paediatric patients ranging from infancy to young adulthood.

Exceptional communication skills are essential, along with the ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will be adept at prioritizing their workload and maintaining high standards of patient care. Confidence in working independently, as well as under the guidance of medical professionals, is crucial. Candidates should hold ENB 219 or 371 and ENB 998 or equivalent qualifications, along with a minimum of two years' experience in a Band 6 nursing role.

Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with surgical teams to establish a truly multi-disciplinary service that enhances patient care.
  • Participate in outpatient clinics, facilitating effective patient assessment and education through pre-operative assessment services.
  • Conduct necessary clinical procedures for pre-operative evaluations.
  • Request appropriate diagnostic and clinical investigations.
  • Attend pre-operative meetings and post-operative ward rounds as required.
  • Manage independent follow-up outpatient clinics for patients undergoing routine surgical procedures.
  • Provide support to ward nursing staff with information and guidance regarding all aspects of surgical care.
  • Contribute to the development of protocols related to patient care and nursing practices.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of post-operative care protocols, exercising clinical judgment when deviations from established protocols are warranted.
  • Engage with Allied Health Professionals to optimize the delivery of multi-disciplinary care.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Professional Healthcare Registration, NMC - RSCN First Degree or a commitment to commence a Degree within 12 months of appointment.
  • Specialist training within your area of expertise or extensive experience at this level of nursing.
