Amazon's Risk and Compliance Solutions (RCS) division is in search of a seasoned Head of Compliance and Risk Management to spearhead the team responsible for overseeing Amazon's regulated payment and lending operations in the UK.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong history of developing and enhancing compliance frameworks within the payments and/or merchant lending sectors in the UK, with substantial experience in engaging with supervisory regulators.


The Head of Compliance will collaborate closely with the UK Compliance Director to establish and uphold a comprehensive, effective, and risk-sensitive regulatory and financial crime compliance framework across the relevant entities.

This role encompasses the ownership and management of all compliance policies related to these operations, focusing on mitigating financial crime risks and ensuring alignment with regulatory standards.

The successful applicant will also assume the responsibilities of Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO).


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of regulatory and financial crime experts to ensure adherence to all regulatory obligations and Amazon's internal standards concerning Regulatory Compliance, Anti-Money Laundering, Counter Terrorism Financing, Criminal Financing, and Fraud Prevention.
  • Cultivate strategic and productive partnerships with various teams within Amazon (Tech, Operations, Product, Business) and provide guidance on significant compliance issues that require their attention or action. Actively assist the business team in preparing for shifts in the compliance and regulatory landscape.
  • Generate pertinent MLRO reports and monthly management updates regarding financial crime, and offer insights on ongoing relevant developments both internally and externally (e.g., new products, risks, regulations, etc.).
  • Provide thought leadership and executive challenge on financial crime prevention, serving as the primary contact for risk assessments related to the entities, new products, or existing products undergoing significant changes.
  • Implement and refine compliance oversight mechanisms and metrics for regulatory and financial crime risks and controls.
  • Advise on policy interpretations and collaborate with the business to address breaches and violations of such policies, facilitating external reporting when necessary.
  • Oversee and conduct ongoing training and manage all required regulatory reporting.
Basic Qualifications

  • Comprehensive understanding of the current payments and lending regulatory environment and expectations, including relevant regulations and legislation.
  • Extensive experience in second line compliance in Anti-Money Laundering, Counter Terrorism Financing, Economic Sanctions, and Fraud Risk Management, acquired within a financial institution.
  • Proficiency in conducting financial crime and compliance risk assessments in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements and guidance.
  • Significant experience in people management, fostering high-performing teams that achieve results.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to convey complex issues to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior management and executives.
  • Proven ability to challenge the status quo and drive results in dynamic and fast-paced environments.
  • Capability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, solve problems, and continuously adjust priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Experience collaborating with international teams across multiple time zones.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in payments or e-commerce compliance.
  • Professional certifications such as ICA, CISI, CAMS, or CRCM.
