Deputy Manager

Job Summary:
The Deputy Manager will assist the Manager in the overall management and day-to-day operation of the Home, ensuring that the home is a safe and secure environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Manager with the development and coordination of the Home, in accordance with OwnLife's policies.
- Deputise for the Manager in their absence.
- Assist the Manager in the overall management and day-to-day operation of the Home.
- Share responsibilities with the Manager and Senior Support Workers to ensure adequate management cover for the home.
- Be the Line Manager to Senior and Support Workers, providing line management support and leadership to staff and residents on a shift by shift basis.
- Provide structured and recorded, as well as informal/on the job supervision for staff.
- Contribute to the staff appraisal system and ensure a high standard of practice and performance by being a role model for the staff.
- In conjunction with the Manager, train and support the staff team, through supervision and formal training processes.
- Assist the Manager in ensuring that each member of staff has a training and development plan.
- Monitor the practices and performance of staff according to the developing needs of the residents or the Home.
- Inform managers in writing, of any unacceptable practices by staff at OwnLife, or their contract staff, and where necessary appear as a witness in any disciplinary hearings.
Requirements:
- Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare / equivalent or working towards.
- Experience of working with children and young people.
- Experience working with young people who present challenging behaviour.
- Ability to engage young people, meeting their physical and psychological needs.
- Ability to work in partnership with other professionals and with the parent(s)/carer(s) of the young people in our care.
- Understanding of professional boundaries with young people.
