About the Role

Legal & General Insurance is embarking on a significant transformation initiative aimed at modernizing its legacy systems. This position is integral to the Application Design, Development, and management of CI/CD pipelines, facilitating the deployment of applications to support this extensive strategic program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take charge of the design, development, and production support for new cloud-native applications.
  • Collaborate closely with the IT Technical Architect and IT Cloud Infrastructure Architect to establish and sustain applications within Azure cloud environments.
  • Engage with development teams, testing and quality assurance, security, and design authority teams to construct and uphold application development pipelines, ensuring all solutions are secure by design and in practice.
  • Create and maintain documentation for knowledge sharing and training purposes.
  • Act as a master troubleshooter and subject matter expert in Java application development and production support.
  • Conduct proofs of concept and feasibility studies to validate next-generation product concepts and technologies, using findings to inform business and technology decisions.
  • Work alongside the Production Service Manager to oversee production issues.
  • Stay updated on evolving technologies and understand how new advancements can be integrated into our cloud infrastructure.
  • Exhibit strong teamwork and effective communication with all stakeholders involved.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in developing e-commerce applications using Java/J2EE, with proficiency in web services and microservices architecture.
  • Familiarity with the Spring framework (Spring Boot, MVC, Dependency Injection, Data Access) is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of JDBC, SQL, XML, JUnit, LDAP, Active Directory, Eclipse, Subversion, HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap, JavaScript, jQuery, and application servers such as IBM WebSphere, JBOSS, or Tomcat.
  • Experience with Test-Driven and Behavior-Driven Development methodologies.
  • Understanding of CI/CD, DevOps tools, and technologies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of database technologies (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server), performance, scalability, data warehousing, and reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with repositories, code control, and development tools like JIRA and Confluence.
  • Expertise in application and web service security, identity management, and protocols.
  • Experience with cloud technologies, preferably Azure.
  • Experience working within Agile development methodologies, such as SAFe or SCRUM.
  • Awareness of established and emerging technologies and their impact on successful business outcomes.
