About the Role
Legal & General Insurance is embarking on a significant transformation initiative that spans five years, focusing on modernizing its legacy systems. This position is crucial for the Application Design, Development, and the management of CI/CD pipelines, as well as overseeing application builds and deployments to support these high-stakes strategic projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Take charge of application design, development, and production support for new cloud-native applications.
- Collaborate closely with the IT Technical Architect and IT Cloud Infrastructure Architect to develop and maintain applications within Azure cloud environments.
- Engage with development teams, testing and quality assurance, security, and design authority teams to establish and maintain application development pipelines, ensuring all solutions adhere to security best practices.
- Create and update documentation for knowledge sharing and training purposes.
- Act as a master troubleshooter and subject matter expert in Java application development and production support.
- Conduct proofs of concept and feasibility studies to assess next-generation product concepts and technologies, using findings to inform business and technology strategies.
- Work alongside the Production Service Manager to address production issues effectively.
- Stay informed about evolving technologies and explore how new advancements can be integrated into our cloud infrastructure.
- Demonstrate strong teamwork and effective communication with all stakeholders involved.

Qualifications
- Proven experience in developing e-commerce applications using Java/J2EE, with proficiency in web services and microservices architecture.
- Familiarity with the Spring framework (Spring Boot, MVC, Dependency Injection, Data Access) is advantageous.
- Knowledge of JDBC, SQL, XML, JUnit, LDAP, Active Directory, Eclipse, Subversion, HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap, JavaScript, jQuery, and application servers like IBM WebSphere, JBOSS, or Tomcat.
- Experience with Test-Driven and Behavior-Driven Development methodologies.
- Proficient in CI/CD and DevOps tools and technologies.
- Comprehensive understanding of database technologies (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server), performance considerations, data warehousing, and reporting tools.
- Experience with repositories, code control, and development tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
- Understanding of application and web service security, identity management, and protocols (e.g., OWASP, WS-Security, SAML, OAuth2, OpenID Connect).
- Experience with cloud technologies, preferably Azure.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies, including SAFe or SCRUM.
- Insight into established and emerging technologies and their role in achieving successful business outcomes.
